Quick Guide to Saving on Gas

Written by Blake Teen on March 18, 2011.

A few weeks ago, I was at work and my non-driving coworker asked the rest of us (all drivers), “Did you know that gas prices are going up?” “Um yes! We have noticed that!” You probably have too. With gas prices rising, it seemed like a good time to pass on a few tricks for saving money on gas.

1.  Reduce your use. Hoof it, carpool, bike, take public transportation … or all of the above. Using these modes of transportation, even if just a few times a week, can save you big in the long run. Combining errands and taking the first parking spot you see can help, too.

2. Scout prices. Grab gas in the least expensive spots you can. This site shows gas prices across the nation so you can research the least expensive spots near you. Just don’t drive too far out of your way for cheap gas, or you could be costing yourself even more.

Don’t Leave Your Wallet in an Unlocked Car

Written by Tim Peak on March 18, 2011.

If you want to keep your credit cards safe, don’t leave your wallet in an unlocked car. Last year, there was a news story of anOhio woman whohad two credit cards stolen from her wallet after leaving it in the glove box of her unlocked car. She was only in the store for 15 minutes, but the thief managed to make a $400 charge on her card in less than two hours.

Leaving your credit cards in your car is rarely safe, but if you have to leave them there, lock them in the glove box or trunk. When you return to your car, check to make sure your wallet and credit cards are still there and report them missing immediately if they aren’t there.

It’s a good thing the bank had this victim’s accurate contact information. That allowed her to find out the cards were missing before the thief was able to do more extensive damage.

Company culture is so important because it guides employees on how the firm gets things done. Even within the same industry, some companies take their work very seriously and show it through formal clothes and stern memos. Other companies leave it up to the separate groups and divisions to figure out how they’ll work together (which is why “poets” and “engineers” have a tough time talking to each other: they have competing cultures!). “How to get things done” covers everything from what to wear, to what voicemail message to leave, to when to arrive and leave from work.

So, how can you get the scoop on culture? Here are some sourc

State Farm is calling their program Drive Safe and Save. They are teaming with OnStar in this program. As a participant in this program you agree to let OnStar report your mileage to State Farm, so they will have an accurate mileage of your annual driving. If you already are a State Farm customer, you will have noticed that on your annual statements, one of the ways you have been classified is by the number of miles you drive annually, generally below or above 7500 miles per year.

If you were classified as driving less than 7500 miles per year but have changed your driving habits and now fall over that limit, OnStar will report that too and you will actually see your premium increase. However, if your classification was accurate you should see a discount of 1 to 45%.
